Then in early November I got this picture sent to me

It may seem insignificant to you, but to me it was the most amazing picture I had ever seen. For 8 long years I had been looking for this car, you see back in 1986 my dad and I bought and built it as our first project. All the others before that were his, I was just his sidekick. I drove this car to my senior high school prom, seen here in 1987.

We sold the car in the early 90's, and I regretted it right away. But, marriage, work, kids and other hot rods all took precedent for a while. Then I decided it was time, but a copy wouldn't due, I wanted that very car if I could find it. I posted all over the web with ics and details of it hoping....

Then one day in November I get a call from a guy that had just bought it and was looking for history on it when he found my searches. Long story short, he sold me the car.

coming off the truck after making its way home.....

and after a good bath.

Now back to the Maverick......

I got a new trunk lid for it. This is a brand new product from Maverick Man that has an integrated and taller spoiler. I like how it fit in general, but the gaps were not quite up to snuff, so.....

I didn't like the fitment of the end cap, so it got cut and reshaped....

I decided at this point to bond the end caps to the quarters.

Now that brings us up to this past Saturday. I got the dash and all associated parts sanded and ready for paint.

On Sunday I sanded the top section of the dash, then mounted it back in the car. I then played out the stripes as I plan to, and extended the tape right across the cowl and onto the dash.

With the lines in place, I went back to the booth and sprayed the stripe color.....

At this point I hung the Ididit steering column and the heater control face plate and sprayed them too....

Then cleared the top of the dash too.....

A little photo bomb just for effect.....

All these parts will now be sanded down and cleared again, but with a matte finish clear.

Glad you're still working on the car, Glenn! Keep up the good work.

Today I sanded all the parts down and after a ton of cleaning on them sprayed on the PPG D8113 matte finish clear. There is no sanding and buffing this clear otherwise the gloss comes back, so cleanliness is super important.

Here is the final product. I left them all in the booth and will grab it all tomorrow. Once home I will install the gauges in the bezel, all the associated switches in the lower panel and mount the dash pad. Can't wait to see it all together for the first time.
