Here is another pretty bitchin Truck for another Local guy. The owner of this project also has a 2nd Gen camaro being built in LA with a Twin turbo Nelson engine....... YEAH that one. Well he stumbled on to my shop by chance having no idea the level of work we do. Well he has this 65 Chevrolet truck that he had been attempting to put together in his spare time. It has a carbed LSX-454 with a paddle shifted 6 speed, HRE wheels, and a Meyer frame. The owner had a really good head start but just no time to work on it himself.
So he asked us to take over the project and knock it out for him. Well after accessing the parts and pieces he had gathered and putting them together in a rough mock up we came up with a truck that sits much too high for our taste and it was decided that with some work we could make this truck sit like it should. Some where the customer got some 375 width Pirelli tires for a 21" HRE wheel.
The plans for the project include - Completely reworking the front and rear suspension to get the ride height and suspension geometry we want and need to handle this kind of horsepower. We will also be narrowing up the trackwidth and changing the shock mounts as this chassis need 600 lbs springs to hold up the car with the motion ration that the front suspension has. And the shock mounts are in a totally wrong spot to even get the control arms to a decent geometry range. The rear suspension will go to a 4 bar that has an actual instant center so we can have some weight transfer and adjust the forward bite in the car. We will also be building a bigger C-notch into the chassis to achieve this ride height and lowering the panhard bar.
Sheetmetal mods include installing a double hump dash from an earlier truck. Installing an AutoRad Coresupport and radiator system. The inner fenders will need quite a bit of work to accomplish this ride height but I think we have a solid plan to accomplish this. But just make it a clean and simple driver.
It should be a pretty fun project.
