Did you end up using the foam as a plug to re-lay a full carbon panel or did it become final as shown?

Exactly: not that anyone is planning on dinging the car, but the risk is there. Making the flares in sheetmetal would be initially possible, but any damage would be very costly having to either repair or replace the sheetmetal piece. With the carbon 'bolt-on' pieces, if one gets damaged, we have the all the molds to make them exactly the same forever.

The pieces you see being formed are essentially the plugs. Usually, molds would be pulled from these pieces. In this case, we went a little further as you will see soon!
