I know Roger has as much technical sense as anyone...Spend some time perusing the builds and designs on the "superlite" web site and see if you still want to go in that direction.

The GT transaxle move is a good one, my first thought with the Ferrari stuff is its a complete waste of time except for a low powered show car like Ferrambo (which I do like quite a bit - the stitched leather wire wrap - yum).

My answer is a simplified LeMans prototype design using some simple forms and shaped aluminum body panels, maybe open cockpit to get away from the nightmare of doors/glass/seals. I've always wanted to do a replica of the Bentley (so much for closed cockpit). That kind of plan can look a bit goofy when raised to 4" ride height though.

I'm not a big fan of putting mid-engine drivetrains in "front" engine bodies or street rod designs myself. Just doesn't seem right and IMO the numbers don't work out, the driver will end up pushed too far into the windshield and there is no engine access.

Another crazy idea, look up the Satan's Ladybug build thread on PT in project updates (he might be posted here too). He recently posted some photos of race VW bugs and there is one that looks almost 930 Moby Dick style that is just too much. That could be a cool and very different project without the cost and redundancy of doing a 911 based project. That would also get you around emissions concerns as you could title it as an early Bug.

I know it's been brought up already, but a Factory 5 GTM is my vote.

This thread looks like it was dorment for awhile. Did you ever make a decision?

Well Tom Hanna called me about a year ago it seems and said some guy from England really wanted these transaxles for parts. Apparently there are a few very weak links in these transaxles and the parts supply is nonexistent. So that guy wanted to trade us 2 transaxles from the Ford GT ( I forget what he called them at 6:30am. I SAID HECK YEAH. And never put another thought into them. Tom was interested in the trade also but I have not heard anything further. They are still in the back room.

It's probably good I did nothing because they apparently are just a pile of junk.

I would love to do a Custom built GTM. I have always had a dream of developing my own Super car. Design everything from the body to the chassis to the entire computer system. Just like a real super car manufacturer. I love the Pagani Zonda stuff. That car is my inspiration.

I had thoughts of doing a highly modfied GTM as well. Until I tried to sit in one! It suddenly went from highly modified to build my own. Wow, they say a 6'-3" guy will fit I'm 6'-4" and missed by a mile. You ain't getting in it buddy. Let me know when you start the development of the ISK Supercar, I'll help with the design work!

For a $20k kit I could definitely see myself putting one together way down the road but I definitely need to see one done before I drop that kind of dough.

Wonder how everything lines up body wise by the time it's all said and done.

We've all seen newer Vette chassis and motors on the market from Cleveland so its definitely doable from a budget stand point for someone like me meaning doing all the work in my garage and not have to be paying for too much fab work.

Figure $20k for the kit, give or take around $10k for a rolling Vette chassis and motor, Tire's and wheels, and then paint and interior.

I think it's possible to put together a decent little driver for under $50K.
