Default Heating a Garage

Hey Guys,

Just moved into a new home with a small garage. 21 x 22 with 9' ceilings.
I want to heat the garage but have to be mindfull of the fact that it's attached and the master bedroom is directly above.

Keep in mind that I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba and the winters here are HARSH!

What kind of heat source should I consider?

why not get a hvac person to duct heating and cooling vents from the rest of the house in there? i would make sure it is insulated very well in the garage to keep heat inside, also depending on your garage door if metal you could measure and buy foam blocks and glue to door to not let heat out as easy. just some ideas

What kind of BTU would be needed for a propane space heater?

not sure if weather is the same there but in maine we have below 30 temps most of jan/feb and alot of december some of november, we use r-19 insulation in walls and r-30 or higher in ceilings
i would want a 50-70k btu heater

http://www.heatershop.com/mrheater_p...r_mhu45lp.html
2lbs of propane per hr of run time, in a properly insulated garage it should only run 10-15 mins per hr
model- mhu-45lp would be a good source, you could use your own propane tank also, lowes and home depot sell 100 lb tanks which hold 24 gallons cost about 70 bucks to fill and would last a week or so of constant heat if properly insulated

lastly modine is a good commercial name model 45 also

Like the idea's. I need to do more studying on specs, install and local codes.

Any other input is welcome.

Jason,

Why not try a electric Sun Twin heater. They heat a 1000sf space and cost about $430. They are small and portable about the size of a small end table. I checked with my electric company and they said that if it ran 24/7 at full blast it would cost about $80 to run it per month. Just a though.
