Default Detroit Speed 4-point roll bar

I just got my roll bar from Detroit Speed, I am installing it in a 68 Camaro that is completely gutted including glass. Has anyone installed one and tacked the rear down bars in and been able to remove the roll bar assembly and finished the welding outside the car? It says in directions it is possible with some models, not being specific. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Usually with most cages/ Roll bars you would either cut the area where the bar lands on the floor so you can drop the cage through the floor to weld the cage all the way around or try and tilt the cage and weld it.

It has to all be tack welded before doing any of the above and before the floor plates are welded in. Make sense?

Thanks for the link, the plan is to set the plates. and get the hoop and rear down bars in place and get them tacked. I would like to then remove it from car if possible and finish it with a tig welder and partially paint it before reinstalling. That is option 1 which usually never works. I won't weld plates in till I know if I can remove roll-bar assembly from car. It's all fun!

I put the DSE cage in my finished Firebird. I removed the front/rear seats, tacked weld the down bars to the main hoop, and was able to remove the whole unit outside the car. IIRC, I had to jack the car up slightly to gain some room to maneuver the cage out of the car.

Thanks for the info, did you open up the package tray using the template DSE supplied with the instructions? I talked to the shop foreman at DSE and he said you can't remove it once you tack the down bars on, interesting. He also said you can cut the hoop down if you want to lower it a little in the car for clearances for headliner and welding up the down bars.

Yes, I did use the DSE template for the package tray. It would have been much easier without the rear glass, but I managed to get it done.

The instruction did say to tack the down bars, and remove the whole unit outside the vehicle to finish welding.

I had to open the package tray about 1/4" more than template and will probably cut main hoop down a bit. That must of been a bitch to get out with rear glass!
