Default External oil pump/ Crankcase scavenging

Ok question that hopefully will be common knowledge to the racecar guys here...

I'm doing my first build with an external wet sump oil pump system and am considering adding a second stage for crankcase scavenging. On the Aviaid website their schematic appears to show the crankcase stage drawing from the valley and then pumping back into the oil pan. Does that sound counter-intuitive to anyone one else?

Before anyone asks why i'm doing an external wet sump instead of a dry sump its because the crossmember on this Detroit Speed Alumaframe lands right where the oil pump is on an FE and I needed to lower the engine. Aviaid has a beautiful pan which allowed me to put the engine where I needed it and I've got so much else consuming real estate on this build I didn't want to go through the hassle of hiding an oil tank etc...
