Anybody here have the front Global West coilover brackets for GM A body?
I've installed them, and the quality and fitment is great. My question is, for those who have them, which shock did you run? And did you use the Global West lower control arm, or another lower? I'm gonna run some 7" stroke Carreras, that I already had laying around, which I will re-valve when the car is going. These shocks have eyelets top and bottom, which I've had to adapt to my lower control arms. I'm running CPP uppers and lowers.
At ride height, I am on the snubbers, and my shock has like 1/2" of travel left, so I have modded the lowers, to get me 2" to 3" of travel. This car will be low.
I see that the Penske shocks that GW sells have no bottom eyelet on them. Instead they have a stock style piece, that bolts to the arm. This piece would have given me a little more travel, but not what I'm needing.
I'm really just wondering what you guys are doing component wise, and how much travel did you end up with, at your chosen ride height.
You need 5-inches of WHEEL travel for good ride quality. . .generally 3-inches for compression, 2-inches for rebound.
The stock configuration puts the shock in a motion ratio near 2:1. So if the tire moves 5-inches overall, the shock moves only 2.5-inches.
If you use a shock that is longer than the OE you need to either raise the upper mount, drop the lower mount, or both.
Our Ridetech coil overs utilize the OE upper shock mount, but we drop the lower mount in our arms. You should be careful that you don't drop the lower mount too low. . .it will hit something.
i would have to say from the pics that is the GW extended travel kit. i would say to talk to ridetech about your setup and use a set of there coilovers. i am sure they can help you get setup with the right parts.
