Question Mini Tub Question: What to do about the Outer Wheelwells?

I'm installing the DSE minitubs in my 68 Camaro. I want to be able to lower the car for show days so that the top of the tire is at or just above the fender lip. I'm concerned about tire rub on the top of the outer wheelwells so I'm wondering if anyone has successfully modified the stock outer wheelwells to gain more clearance? I realize that the body line will not allow the tire to be too close to the edge but it looks like I could move inward about an inch and, by modifing the roof of the wheelwell gain significant clearance. Is the work worth the effort?

Thanks for all the info so far.

Not much room up there on a 67-68 due to the curvature of the quarter panel. But it would be beneficial on say a 69.

You can see what i did for clearance...and instead of welding to the quarter, if body work is already done. You can use a metal bond the is avail. at any finish master or body supply store.

That's a tough picture to figure out. It looks to me like the outer wheelwell ceiling was raised using two strips of metal. Is that right?

What I did was, cut the outer radius off the outer house....
The middle of the outer house is still in tact...
At the top center, just before the house starts the bend tward the quarter
I cut there, from the front to the back....then I cut the lip 1/4" back from
outside of quarter, that not only cleans up the lip but cuts the factory spot welds free. Once the old stuff is out I took some thick construction paper and made a template...once that fit good then I made it out of metal.
I've got some better pics of the mod I'll have to post tomarrow...
that was the best pic I had on hand...sorry

The middle seem is were the DSE tub meets the out house.

AllSpeedAndy - OK. I think I understand it now. It sounds very much like what I was planning. Still, I would appreciate any more picture that you may have including some from above in the trunk and seat compartment.

Thanks again..
