I think the x-brace is designed to be used with all the additional convert floor bracing. I think most guys don't go this way because of exhaust clearance issues.
I would recommend the SFC route. There are some pretty good products out there now. Some are more visible than others. The DSEs are hardly visible, but quite a bit of work (but probably no more than welding all the convert bracing in).
