Default tire size for 68 mini-tub

hey scott, (or anyone) I have the 68 with the PCV issue. anyway we are moving on.. i am doing the mini-tub on my car and was wondering in all of you professional opinions what is the largest rim width i can go with? I am thinking of going with Budniks and 17 X 11 r and 17 X 8 f, but i would like to go 12 or 13 in the rear if possible.. Thanks guy's

I don't think 13's will go without competley relocating the rear frame rail. 11's are a better balance if you are running 8's up front.

I have a '68 that I tubbed with the DSE kit, and am running 17x11 Budniks with a 315/35/17 tire. If you want to run a 335 tire, you will need a 12" rim, but I didn't go with a 17x12 Budnik for a couple reasons. One, their 'stock' sizes are 17x11 and 17x13, so through DSE they would charge about double for a 'custom' 17x12 size. (I really don't understand this because I thought they custom made each rim to order anyway...) Second, a 335 tire is theoretically the largest you can run with the DSE minitub, and you need to be spot-on with your measurements on your rear/backspacing/rim sizes or risk rubbing. Plus rolling the fender lip is pretty much required with a 335 from what I've heard.

Gordy, I'm doing 335's on 18x12 Budniks. As I recall when I did my mock up, I had probably 3/4" clearance on both the inbord and outboard side. That's the minimum you'd want to run on the street.

Default rims

call jon at budnik the 17x12s will be no special order, i have a 68 mini tubbed also, i got 14.25 inches without rolling lip from inner wheel well to 1/4 panel lip, so there is room for a 335, i am up in the air on 315 to 335, will be a last min decision for me, oh ya a 13 inch rim will work, look at stuart adams red 68 camaro on the cars page of this site, he has 17x13 tillers with 335's

The 12" wide IS a custom order ( believe me, I paid for it!). The story I was told by both Kyle and Budnik is that Budnik doesn't have 12" wide hoops, so they make the 12's by sectioning two 9's and welding them together.

You can run a 335/35 on a 11 but not a 335/30 two different things, sidewall height makes it.

Default awsome

I love that car! the rear with those 335 just look amazing!
i was just curious if youre running 20 " inch rears x 12 with a 335/35 or 40 series tyre will the DSE Kit accomodate it? We see alot of 17"/18" inch wheels but what about 20" with those series?

There is no way you can run a 30 or 40 series 20" tire in a 67-or 68 with out fender surgery. Prodigy (Frank) is running a 25 series and I think it is going to be a squeeze. I am planning on 345/30/19's and it will be a squeeze at 27.5 inch tire. 13" wide rims with a rolled lip gives me 3/4" each side which I don't think is going to be enough unless I go solid bushing rear so there is no lateral movement.

There is a pic of a Red 67 that was at SEMA in the Pypes booth and has been posted here with 22's out back. Wheels are sucked way in and has real tubs. CLick on link for pic
