Default Thinking about VW

I am in the market for purchasing a used car. I have been contemplating getting a VW Passat or Jetta...any opinions? Would love to get the TDI but they are too pricey for me at this time. How good of an engine is the 1.8T?

Thanks Todd

I have an '05 Jetta GLI,Turbo,20 Valve,6 speed,Recaros,18" BBS wheels,etc.
Rides like it's on rails and keeps up with much pricier vehicles.
Hwy 31 MPG.

except that they seem to go thru fromt wheel bearings a little quicker than youd like (or perhaps i just drive like an idiot) ant the electronic accelerator rolls off the throttle when you lift quick, which feels alittle wierd the first couple of times... but vw is a great car. the 1.8T is good for well over 300 reliable horsepower and will last forever below 250Hp

they are great to drive and th einterior quality is better than what you'll find in any caddy. with springs, shocks and wheels you have a car that is really fun to drive

if yoy are in the market for a brand new one: then ive just ridden in my buddys 2006 passat TDI, 170Hp and torque like a powerstroke ford. its very spendy but ill take it any day over a mercedes, it does about 140mph and the mileage is awesome.. so if you are considdering a new one atleast get a test drive... you will never think of diesels the same way..
