We are looking into that right now and from what we have been told is if you can still see red when braking its OK. We have LED lights behind the black set and they are bright. What we may have to do is sell the light kit with the black one seperate and let the buyer install them. We have been painting tail lights for years and have had 0 problems. Not all states are the same so we are looking into it. Any info from you guys would be great as we dont want to sell a part that will cause anyone any problems.
If you like these wait till you see the RS lights they are sick.
In California people get tickets for blacked out tail and headlights, so I guess it would not be legal here.
Nice product Chris.
To jump on the legal issue.....
We have been tinting tail lights for some time too and most recently a set of for our Mustang project. But we too are running red LEDS behind them.
There seems to be a 'grey' area in our NJ state law regarding this.
We can not have anything that is applied to or mounts directly to or in front of a lense (have it be a tail or head light). I've known 4x4 guys to get tickets for having simple wire mesh type stone guards clipped to the headlights. Back in the day we used to get tickets for having our GTS blackouts on our Irocs at the Jersey Shore (I am kidding about the Irocs). I myself have recently failed NJ motor vehicle inspection for having headlight grill bars on a Manik push bar on my pick up.
But I believe tinting the lens is legal as long as the red light illumitates.
I have seen lots of issues here so what I think we will do is offer the black lens as a upgrade that you install your self and you only buy it if you want them blacked out. They look sick but we need to stay with in the law and in AZ it just depends on the cop you ask. Some say yes some say no.

Not sure about the laws, but some places (like VA) won't pass w/o DOT numbering or approval. Not that this should stop us for antiques and/or show cars.... BTW, nice!!
They look nice Chris! I like the black option too!!
If I can help you out with some Billet Stuff let me know I will get you a deal and we kicked in for your paint as well and hope you guys get everything all worked out. I hate seeing stuff like this and hope with all these guys here it works out. Good luck
