Default Install Overview: Hurst Driveline Conversions Tremec TKO Kit for 67-76 Mopar A-Body

Install Overview:

We have compiled the following installation notes for summary only. If you have specific questions in regards to your vehicle, please contact our Tech Line at 707-544-4761 for additional information.

Application:
Mopar 1967-1976 A-Body

Installation Information

Shifter location:
Our A-Body Tremec TKO kit achieves a shifter location that positions the shifter to 1 ¼” forward of the stock 4-speed shifter location. Positioning the shifter in this location allows for full clearance when using bench sets.

Tunnel fitment:
In order for the Tremec TKO transmission to fit within the tunnel of the A-Body it is necessary to cut the tunnel to achieve proper transmission fitment and driveline angle. Each Hurst Driveline Conversions kit includes a template and universal tunnel patch.

Floor brace and cross-member:
Due to the larger size of the Tremec TKO, installing a Tremec TKO into your A-body Mopar requires cutting and removing the stock floor brace of your car. This floor brace is an important structural member of an A-body car. The transmission kit includes a custom, bolt-in floor brace that replaces the stock unit. Due to variances in particular cars, in some cases there may be additional modifications required to your car or to the custom floor brace. Additionally, a custom A-body-to-Tremec TKO cross-member is also included in each kit. The custom floor brace and cross-member, which are engineered to be stronger than the stock unit, have been designed to work with the factory exhaust system as well as most custom dual exhaust set ups.

When using a bench seat, it is necessary to either position the seat in the rear most position in order to clear the custom floor brace. If required, the bench seat can be raised by approximately 1” using spacers in which case the seat will be bale to positioned all the way forward.

Bellhousing:
You will need to use a Hurst Driveline Conversions custom bellhousing that will adapt the Tremec TKO transmission to the Mopar engine block. Small block aluminum bellhousings as well as big block SFI scattershields are available from Hurst Driveline Conversions.

Clutch linkage:
You will be able to use your stock clutch linkage. Hydraulic clutch kits are also available from Hurst Driveline Conversions.

Driveshaft:
You will need a new, shorter driveshaft with a 26 spline slip yoke.

Speedometer and reverse lights:
You will need a custom speedometer cable that is compatible with the Tremec TKO as well as your stock speedometer gauge. The Tremec TKO also has a provision for an electric speedometer. An electric speedometer wiring harness or a custom speedometer cable with the correct speedometer gear for your rear tire size and rear gear ratio is included with each of our conversion kits.

Clutch components:
You will need a 26 spline clutch disc. Replacing your pressure plate and clutch disc at the same time is recommended.
