Default Who has cat converters with LS swaps

Hi guys

I am just tired of this exhaust smell after driving the car. Just wondering if anybody in this forum who has installed cat converters with their LS swaps.

Even for a short drive I smell like exhaust which os really anoying and cannot even take my family for a ride due to allergy issues of strong exhaust smell.

I have done some research and found a spun type high flow converter from Magnaflow ( 8” long and 4” diameter). They do have them in different inlets and outlets depending on the exhaust you ate running.

There was a post about this on Pro-Touring not that long ago. Might check there as well.

Also, I have read on a tuning group that when injector timing is fine tuned, you can get rid of the fuel smell quite a bit as well. Another thing that may be worth researching.

Where does your exhaust system exit? Riding in the car should not leave you smelling of exhaust if the system is properly routed and the car is adequately sealed underneath. My Jeep Grand Wagoneer has an LY5, and no one has ever complained of the exhaust smell, even after an all day trip.

The exhaust is routed all the back under the bumper. May it is running rich which i need to consider as well.

I ran (2) 3" Random Technology cats on my LS7 cam/headers RX-7 swap and it still went 110mph in the 1/8 and 138mph in the 1/4 on 91 octane. I would say a quality hi flow cat on an n/a setup eats maybe 5-10rwhp. I also hate the stinky unleaded smell without cats.

eBay cats can be found for $50 on up!

Thanks for the input man. Any idea about the cell counts on the these cats? I have found a slim version of stainless steel works cats (2.5 IN &OUT) and 3 inch body diameter. However, it is 100 cell cat that still will not prevent the stinky gas smell.

By all means I will check out the random technology cats

Random Technology cats are $$$$. I got them free for being in Sport Compact Car Mag back in the day (2005) Ultimate Street Car Challenge.

I'm guessing 200 cell count. Plenty on eBay for under $100 each. Even with cats, full dual 3", Xpipe and dual Magnaflow mufflers the car sounded wicked (and loud).

I would spend your time on getting the tune right before considering Cats. Should not be a need for Cats to get rid of the smell.

Random went out of business a few years ago unfortunately. Their stuff was great and cost very little power on high horse power builds. I'd look to Magnaflow or Eastern Catalyst now. I'd also follow Charlie's recommendation and get the tune dialed in better first.

Thanks guys for the input. I received my Thunderbolts Cats but have not installed them yet.

I would also check the tuning as recommended by Charlie.
