Default Anyone own/owned an e39 M5?

I think I am going to buy a M5 as my daily driver. What I really like about them is 6 speed, 4 doors, 400+hp and great handling. Plus they are not so modern like the newer ones that I can't work on it myself.
I have two kids and need the extra space but I don't want to buy a boring car.
I have owned BMWs in the past, M3 and a standard 5 series and found them to be phenomenal cars.
Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Just do yourself a favor and DO NOT get an E60.... I hated mine so much that I parked it with 10,000 miles on it and drove anything else I owned at the time. Useless POS tranny -- gutless torque less motor... The car was fun for about 10 seconds as long as you were revving above 6,000 rpm... anything else the car was pig.

Stick with the E39.

Yeah I don't think I could do a v10 plus 6speeds are way harder to find.

I like how the e39 is older now and most people on the road wouldn't even think twice about it. Pretty much sleeper status.

Have not owned this particular one but owned an E39 540 and a couple M3's.

E39 DD would be a great DD. I have considered this myself. It is a great platform. And yes that later V10 M5 is such a pig. What a POS.

My personal Porsche mechanic drove a low mileage clean E39 M5.

I've worked on them and supercharged them. They are great cars...

If you are willing to work on it yourself and invest in the correct tools such as a Bavarian Tech Tool to read the DME it should be a great daily.

Seeing the age I would expect to do some work right off the bat... keep some cash on the side - the parts prices for M series have not dropped significantly like the e36 market.

Torqueless.... and coupled with the jerky SMG trans --- it truly was a giant POS. A real expensive one too!

I've been driving BMW's since my first 2002 in 1976 and have loved them all --- but that car was just a bad model.
