Default Lsa swap into a 69 Camaro

Hey guys , I have been absent for along time from the forum but I am back and as before searching for knowledge! I recently purchased a Lsa engine from a new zl1 and I ended up with a reworked harness from John made using the stock e38 Ecu. In its current form is has the provisions for the stock FPCM , but I am looking to run Carl's vaporworx stand alone fuel controller along with his ctsv retroworx tank setup. do you guys think this is the best choice? My other option is to run the retroworx setup with the stock FPCM. My main concern now is if I don't run the stock FPCM my computer is not going to be happy. Should I ditch this harness and just go with a e37 setup that doesn't even have the FPCM ? What's my best combo you guys think ? Right now the harness just has a pigtail with the fuel trigger and ignition input and serial wire for the FPCM .

Thanks! Justin

John the e38 and the stand alone Vaporworx CTSV pump set up (I believe) should run just fine. That is my exact set up minus the LSA, but the computer doesn't care what motor you're running. It reacts to sensor inputs to ensure you have enough fuel. Do get it tuned just to be on the safe side.

If Carl sees this I'm sure he'll chime in.

Ditto on what Ron said.......I've got a Speartech Harness with the E38 and Vaporworx system on my LSA swap.......11,000 trouble free miles.....

Thanks guys so even though my harness currently has the hookup for the factory FPCM I will be ok leaving it unhooked ? I am sure I can just have those disabled if it throws codes right ?

Thanks again

I have a Ricks Vaporworx with the CTSV pump set up going in my 69 LSA/4l85. It is a sweet set up, and Carl will be there if you need tech on it. Its a well built product.
Plenty of reading on this page. http://www.vaporworx.com/

Gents,

Justin and I have been trading emails back and forth, but here's a bit of recap of the tech side of this.

The factory FSCM can be challenging to adapt given the wiring involved. On a take-out everything MAY be there, but since it is designed for a 5th-gen there is stuff that needs to stay in the harnesses, and stuff that needs to go. For the sections that stay, they likely won't be the right lengths due to the differences in chassis designs. For the sections that don't need to stay, it becomes a wiring harness dissection and study course on what to eliminate.

For new parts, getting all of the right components can be challenging, and the same applies for adding/subtracting wire lengths, unneeded circuits, etc. By the time all is said and done, the VaporWorx controller, with a total of 4-6 control wires to connect, looks quite inviting. Cost -wise I have not checked on what a total GM FSCM would be.

As mentioned above, E38 can support FSCM or standard fuel system power. For standard systems, like that provided in Speartech's harness, a simple relay is used to provide fuel pump + power. VaporWorx uses this circuit to tell the PWM controller to turn on. In this scenario all of the OE safety features remain in place. The ECM fuel pump enable circuit, the same circuit used to trigger the relay in the Speartech harness, can be used to trigger the VaporWorx controller and have all safety features remain in place.

Also, the E38 should be re-programmed to have the FSCM turned off and the fuel pressure tables re-set to a constant 60 psi for the LSA. The associated FSCM wiring and computer can also be removed. A manifold referenced fuel pressure can be used but we have found that a simple 60psi constant works well and is easier to install.
