Default LT5 discontinued!?

Apologize if this has been spoken about already. I went to look at GM performance crate engines and it’s listing the LT5 as discontinued now. This is the engine I planned on purchasing for my car in the next year or two so this is pretty sad news for me. Has anyone heard of this or why it is happening? The LT4 seems to be staying in production.

Part of me wants to just pull the trigger on it and keep it in a box for a while. The other part is thinking that they may be about to release something even more powerful, but I am doubting this as the nee platform is mid engine and probably doesn’t need the same power house as C7.

Well that sucks, I was planning on using it too! Maybe Mark will have share insight to what's going on.

Why would they discontinue it?

GM built out the LT5. Now the LT5 is no longer in production GM does not plan to build any more.

So GM is sold out of LT5 and LS7s

It'll be interesting to see how many more crates will disappear with the new electric revolution fad.

Makes sense if it's not going to be used in the future. I'm surprised the LT5 wasn't planned to be a future powerplant for the C8. Guess there's something else in the works to up the power for it in the future, will be interesting to see where it goes and what trickles down (if anything) for crate options

The c8 trans delay etc resulted in the c7 zr1 & lt5 being built as a one year model to placate the hot rod masses while the c8 issues were being fixed.

I believe the l83, lt4 & 5 represent the last in line for now of semi tune able gm engines as the newer upgraded gen motors are locked down encrypted due to liability/reliability management.

Until the aftermarket cracks the new gen code if ever, we for now may have reached peak engine tune.

So here’s investing 102 advice (rip weld) stock up on lt5 front accessory drives 😀
