Default 9tooth/11tooth starter query

So i managed to find someone that keeps offset holes gear reduction starters in stock... but when i bought and recieved it, i found my existing starter is a 9tooth type and the new one is an 11 tooth. Can i pull the starters apart and swap over the drive gear? I can't run the standard starter due to extractor clearance issues.

Any suggestions guys?

I'm no expert, but I'll take a guess.

An 11 tooth gear has a larger pitch diameter than a 9 tooth, so its centerline needs to be further from the other gear's centerline for the teeth to mesh properly. Using the mounting position for the 9 tooth cog will bind if an 11 tooth cog is on there, since you're trying to impose the same center to center distance between gears.

Not sure if I'm right in this case but it's something to think about.

i asked the guy i bought it off if he had the 9 tooth ones, he is telling me i can just use the 11 tooth one on there, that it will still mesh up with the flywheel. Does this sound right?
