Scott or any other electrical guys..help!

[Fluid Power]

I am pretty much a jack of all trades (and master of none) except for electrical. Wiring is something I just have real basic understanding of. Basically if the battery is charged, and something won't start and things are clicking, I am done!

I need to overcome this issue and was going to by a multimeter to start with. I went to the Fluke site and was overwhelmed! I would like some recommendations on what type I should buy. I would use it mostly for trouble shooting electrical things on cars, tractors, 4 wheelers, etc.

Any help ideas?

For troubleshooting you can save yourself some money and just buy a $30 digital multimeter at Radio Shack. It will measure everything (voltage, current and resistance) you need with the accuracy you need for troubleshooting.

If you still want to go for Fluke i would recommend the Fluke 88, designed for automotive industry and have accessories such as pressure,vaccum and rpm monitoring.

Flukes are top shelf but not needed in most cases. My crapsman works just fine.

I have a really nice Fluke at work but a much cheaper meter at home. Fluke is pretty much the Snap-on brand of DMM's.

They all pretty much do the same thing, so I'd look for a meter with a large LCD screen that has a backlight/indiglo option. Peak hold is nice, too. But other than that, they all auto range and have the same options and would be equally effective when it comes to garage use.
