Unhappy Rt. 66 Joliet cancels Super Chevy

I was out with a few frinds andone fo them told me he recieved a notice from Super Chevy that the Rt. 66 show was cancelled and the new venue for the time slot will be in Houston. I was just wondering if the track is in $$$$$$$ trouble like Memphis is. Also will the Goodguys show be there or not, I hate to see these places close, I take my son there and we enjoy it. If anyone heard anything post it so others will know.

I would guess that Super Chevy is in trouble. Were there many cars at the event?

SS Indy use to be huge, now it's a joke. GG events killed them.

I was at the frist Super Chevy a Rt66 and from what I hear that was the best year and it was not that great. I'm sure they are trying out new places.

It really was not that great. I really like the GG event. I still hate to see shows cancelled.

Default Super Chevy gone

At one time Super Chevy was THE event to attend, with huge crowds and great cars that would travel from all over the country to participate. Over the years it diminished slowly and eventually became a joke of how few cars attended. Just pick up an issue of Super Chevy, look at the backrounds on any of the event coverage photos and see that it is almost a ghost town of cars and attendees. Indy was probably the largest attended event on the circuit of all the others I attended. What caused this? I can think of a number of reasons. Promotion? Cost (everything was extra it seemed)? Management? Who knows. I participated in the first Joliet event a number of years back , and was exited to have one locally. Sure the were a few glitches, but I returned the next year figuring they would get it ironed out. Nope. So I waited another year or two and returned. I couldnt even get into the track because of poor traffic management. I've gone there to NASCAR races and got in way quicker and way easier than the poorly attended Super Chevy Show. It was so bad to get in that I turned around and went home before even getting in! They have done it to themselves. So long Super Chevy. RIP

Same reason we lost second NHRA event, poor attendence!! Plus all of the above reasons .. Seems we lose interest fast here in Chicago. They should of takin notes from the GG show it keeps getting better every year.. Very well run . SC just seemed stale over the years..

Unhappy

I agree that GG is the event to attend. I went a few years ago to Indy and was blown away. Now I am a regular at Joliet and probably will attend a few others like Phoenix and maybe even California. I just hate to see shows get cancelled.

Fewer shows would be a good thing in my opinion.... There's so many shows now that it spreads the crowd and cars thin. A few really big shows would be better for the vendors and advertisers... and you could go and really have some fun seeing "all the cars" and see big vendors etc.

Hell - I live in the Pacific NorthWET and there's 3 shows here every Saturday and Sunday. Well - if you guys are like me - I do have OTHER things to do on some weekends - like Golf - swim in my pool - have company - birthdays etc to attend. AND I can only take a show about every other week... I'm not a big "sit on my ass guy". So when you toss is the 3 or 4 big shows I go to -- I'm done! My point is... most of the country is more like the PNW than it is So Cal and Arid Zona... and there's only so many weekends I want to attend a car show. If I go to a show -- Use Hot August Nights as an example -- and the cars are marginal... I don't go anymore... and I'll agree GoodGuys has been doing a far better job than most. I'd go anywhere in the country to see a GG show because I can pretty much bet it's going to be "worth it".

Another thing that kills Super Chevy for me and most other non-OCD sufferers is the wannabe ISCA judging style combing over every car with a fine tooth comb looking for flaws and screws and bolts that aren't indexed and awarding 6 foot tall trophies and tavern jackets to the same OCD dork every year because he hand polished his transmission case regardless of the fact that his car is some refugee from the 1979 Street Freaks era and doesn't have a single part on it purchased after 1981 unless you count wax and tire dressing. No thanks!

Short of Good Guys' "Of The Year" awards, they refer to their awards specifically as "Picks" so as not to be mistook for lame shows and lame judges who give awards to lame cars. People whine about politics at GG shows but you truly never know what will get a pick and I've specifically seen them overlook lame indoor cars because the owner pulls in with a big attitude like they're big-time because they got their butts kissed at the indoor shows all winter and come driving in like they're here for their trophy. They don't call it Good Guys" for nothin'.
