Hey guys, how well would these tires work for street use?
I know they will wear quicker than normal street tires, but I don't put alot of miles on my car anyways. And the only time it would ever see rain is if I was suddenly caught in it.
Does it not rain every day there?! You'd love them as far as driving and grip, my only negative feed back would be <maybe> they toss more gravel at the paint? I can't say for sure but I feel I hear more gravel being tossed up. I also don't have a ton of street miles. A few friends are running them on daily drivers, they love 'em.
Also when you start going to events and the tire rating debate?
You getting new wheels to? Not that you need to I just thought I recalled that come up before? What tire are you running now?

They're fine on the street. I've got over 2k on mine with at least 8 races as well. Any softer compound is going to sling more debris. I'd go with 200's if you want to compete in any of the events.
I'm running NT01's for daily use in rain or shine and they are practically the same as the R888s I believe. It's not as bad as some people say but mine are pretty damn loud sounding, which I don't mind. If you don't put a ton of miles on the car I'd say go for it.

Todd are you saying that "ALL or MOST" events will only let you run if you have a 200 wear tire? i know the CSS&HC requires 200 tires.
i was thinking of running the Yokohama Advan048 and they are a 60 TW i figured they would be alot of fun.
I'm not sure Blake. Most venues will let you run stickier tires, you just can't compete for the title. All the pro touring events are 200 treadwear from hear on out. I bought mine when they hadn't decided on 200's. Mine have been super quiet and great everywhere. They aren't ideal for autocross but I've outran the local track champ in ESP and multiple others quite a few times. This car is a road racer so I'm pretty happy. Buy em if you don't want to compete for the Optima deal.
i noticed on the Optima street car Cahllenge rules that the BFG R1 tire is acceptable and it is a 40 tread wear tire???i know the superchey handling challenge requires a 200 TW tire. so i gusee a guy needs 2 sets go figure
The only reason I don't run R888s everywhere is that they have instituted that hard tires (200+ TW) be used at most of the events.
But a tire like the R888 or RA1 is perfectly fine for street use.
I've driven them in the rain and shine.. great tires - they just wear out quicker. My guess is that you could get 10,000 miles of them just cruising around. Track time would shorten that.
Oh, and they are NOT to be used in freezing temp.. the softer rubber might crack - a bad think to have happen!
