I would like to hear from some high hp stick guys get their opinion thanks Bob.

The 4L80E would be the choice for me if I was going auto. But...... I dont know, just something about a stick that is sooo much more fun. If its not gonna be yer daily driver, doesnt sound like it, I would go with a manual box.
With a GOOD hydraulic clutch system I would think that car would be alot of fun to drive. And Im thinking with it being a turbo that will help with the drivability. The slight turbo lag will help with starts.
Give yerself some credit also. Its difficult to jump into a high HP car with a stick and drive it like you have been sitting in the seat for years. Gonna be a jerky, slippery drive at first. But after you get used to the car it becomes second nature.
Yer buddies cobra? Was it normally aspirated? That will make it more touchy on the starts. Deep torque. The turbo engine will give you alot of room at the bottom to feather the clutch. It will be lacking in torque at the lower rpms for starts. Great for a manual tranny. Unless you are heavy on the go pad and get the Rs up a lil then hang on, the rear is gonna come around to see where she is going
I vote for the manual transmission. And with the great transmissions out now and the hydraulic throwout bearing they are a dream. Not like the old days. 20 years ago the selection was limited. Heavy tranny, heavy clutch and really heavy pedal. Not much fun and alot of torched tires and clutch plates. JR
