Default Vette brakes and products handling packages for second Gen Camaros

Does anyone here beside me remember Vette Brakes and Products line of handling packages with the front transverse fiberglass springs for second generation Camaros, along with the tubular uppers and lowers front and complete rear suspension, big sway bars, Konis, etc from back in the 80's?

I dont even see the stuff on ebay. Anybody here ever use the set up? I was going to buy the complete set up but thought it too pricey. Its a joke compared to todays prices and it would make a second generation pull a "G". with the vette wheels and tires.

Just wondering.

Been there, done that! Di the full package in 1992 on my Pro Touring 80 Z28. Did the suspension, 16" Iroc wheels and Gatorbacks. And yes it did pull 1G on a skid pad. I had kidney replacement surgery after driving the car for a few weeks, LOL! Road ROUGH!

Just wondering where this modification might fit in the whole Pro Touring movement.

Whatever happened to that car Frank?

Haha, I remember drooling over their catalog when I was in night school back in the day, probably '90 or '91. I had owned my Camaro about a year or 2 then, all I wanted was a G-machine. I wonder if I ever read Franks article?

I'm still doing a helluva lot more wanting and waiting than seat time... funny how life and technology of the aftermarket keeps moving right along.

There is an end to the tunnel right?

The stuff worked, just rode rough as hell. But was the very beginning of real Pro Touring. There was race cars with license plate, but G Machine handling was just starting to become popular. When I put those MONSTER 16s on that car, everyone told me I was crazy and they would not fit. If I remember right I reversed the fronts and rears and they fit perfect. I also bumped the tire sizes from 245s to REALLY BIG 255s!

As for what happened to the car I would really love to have it back actually. I kind of committed sacrilege and destroyed a 1 of 1 car. It started life as a really super clean 1980 Hugger Camaro of which they made 90. The Huggers came with 14" Minilite's (low profile 14s to lower the COG), some sway bars and shocks, Window straps, a A and A Air Dam, and a gawdy decal kit. About 70 of the cars were Hugger orange, the other 20 were a few different colors. All the cars had tan interior except one that had black interior. They made 6 black cars and one car black car with black interior, that also came with a ASC Power Moon Roof done at ASC before it was delivered to the dealer. That was the one I masqueraded, LOL!

I lost all my pics of the original car but it looked almost exactly like the car in the picture below I found on Google. It was gawdy as hell, but probably worth a few bucks today.

Being the way I am, I blew it apart, added a warmed over 383 with (Corvette aluminum heads!) Wow, that was the snaz! Muncie 4 speed, 3.73, 4 wheel disc from a WS6 Trans AM. I have always liked cars that still have original car hughes, but are modified. Purple was in and I did factory Z28 graphics in purple, had people scratching their heads how I did it. Was actually simple, just paint purple first, applied the decals, painted black, pulled the decals, and cleared the car.

Was pretty sharp in the day and won everywhere it went.

I sold it to buy a boat! Someone saw it in the magazine, I threw a crazy number at them, and they bite! The guy that bought it started drag racing it? Beat the hell out of it I heard, and someone supposedly bought it at the Turkey run for a 1/3 of what he paid 6 months later.

I miss it, it really is the car that got me started in this direction

Rocking the IROC 16s!

Black Hugger, not mine.

Default VB&P suspension

I happen to have a camaro with that very suspension. Unfortunately it is a parts car and not running so I cannot give any opinion on its handling prowess. I will however offer the suspension for sale if you are interested. The only problem is that I am currently moving to a new bigger house and won't get to it for a little while. I don't plan on using the suspension and will be using some tubular arms from from some company just not sure which brand. PM me if you are interested. Oh I also have their matching rear composite springs too.

Default Vb&p

I would even throw in the front subframe too. I don't need that either. You wouldn't have to mod yours.

I called VB&P, just to see if they still carried the Camaro/Firebird set-up, man I swear it's like I was speaking a foreign language to them. Most have zero knowledge of the product ever being in production, although they do still offer the rear springs.

I guess they were ahead of their time, way ahead.

Thanks Frank for confirmation!

Sandbagger, VB&P were really hanging it out there back then. I just about converted an original 74 Z-28 with their full kit. I had a set of GTA Trans Am wheels, black, and had the cash to do the conversion. Next thing ya know, my lovely bride informed me I was going to be a father again. I still have the original 74, unmolested. Glad I didn't screw the car up.
