Speedway Motors Announces 2015 Classic American Muscle Challenge
Speedway Motors is building on the success of the new SCCA® Classic American Muscle (CAM) class to introduce the 2015 Speedway Motors CAM Challenge.
The 2015 Speedway Motors CAM Challenge will consist of three autocross events across the country, kicking off with a western regional event on March 6-8 at Crows Landing near San Francisco. This will be followed by an eastern regional on August 7-9 at Grissom Air Force Base near Indianapolis, and then the Invitational Championship event on September 4-6 at the Tire Rack SCCA Solo® National Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Each CAM Challenge event will run the three SCCA CAM classes, with the first two events using the SCCA Match Tour format to determine class winners and an overall winner. The top two drivers in each class at the regional events will earn invitations to the Championship in Lincoln, which will use the SCCA Pro-Solo® format to determine class and overall champions. The top finishing CAM-T or CAM-S drivers at each of the three events will get invitations to compete at the Goodguys AutoCross Finals November 20-21 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The SCCA CAM classes are designed for both traditional and contemporary American muscle car sedans and coupes with front-engine, rear-wheel-drive configuration, along with classic American sports cars from the ’60s and ’70s. Cars must be street legal, licensed and insured, have interiors, and use 200 tread wear street tires. There are no restrictions on engines and drivetrains.
“We are pleased that Speedway Motors has decided to create the CAM Challenge specifically designed for muscle cars and that these exciting events will be powered by the SCCA’s rules and administration,” said Raleigh Boreen, SCCA Region Development Manager. “SCCA also provides CAM enthusiasts opportunities to autocross locally at over 1000 Solo events nationwide.”

Speedway Motors President Clay Smith echoed Boreen’s enthusiasm. “It’s exciting for Speedway Motors to present the 2015 CAM Challenge,” Smith said. “These events align perfectly with Speedway’s longtime commitment to racing safety, our involvement in autocross competition, and our expanding line of muscle car performance parts. We look forward to working with SCCA to stage this focused series of special events.”

Here is the weekend schedule for the first CAM Challenge at Crows Landing Airport, Crows Landing, CA 95313.

From what I understand the first two events will be run in the Match Tour format and the final event in Lincoln will be a Pro-Solo format.

Event Schedule

4:00 - 6:00 pm CAM Challenge Course open for walking
6:15 pm Chiefs Meeting

No New Entries allowed after 6:00 pm

Saturday, March 7

Sunday, March 8
6:30 am Site Opens
7:30 am Course closed for walking
8 - 9:30 am SCCA Worker Runs
9:30 - Noon CAM Challenge Session 3 (Shootout Qualifying) 3 runs
12:15 pm CAM Challenge Shootout Drivers Meeting
Noon - 1:00 pm SCCA Worker Runs
1:30 - 3:30 pm CAM Challenge Session 4 (Shootout)
4:00 pm Awards presentation following Challenge Competition

Scheduled times and run orders are subject to change due to local restrictions and conditions.

So there will runs on a test course from 11-3 on Friday. On Saturday 3 runs guaranteed in the morning on a 55-60 sec. regular solo course. In the afternoon you will get a minimum of 3 more runs. The fastest morning and afternoon times added together will determine Saturday class winners. Top 2 in each class get an invite to Lincoln Invitational.

On Sunday everyone will get 3 runs again. The fastest 64 go into the Challenge Shootout to determine an overall winner. Top CAM S or CAM T driver gets an automatic invite to Good Guys Finale.

That sounds like quite a bit of good seat time on a quality high speed autocross course for a $75 entry fee.

Sure wish it was closer to me, I know I'd be there.

Default Speedway

George
I will be there. Used to run Crows many
years back. Lots of big tracks going from
one runway to another. Last year they were
hitting over 100 at the Park Memorial
I took the Pantera for a spin to see some buddies
Almost went home to change my tires and run

Here is an example of the type of course that will be setup for the CAM Challenge...

Does that look fun or what?!?! It's more like a Solo Trials event than an autocross.

If I was anywhere near...I'd be doing anything I could to attend just to run a course like that.

Here's another one...
