My son and I are planning the rebuild our 66 Corvette convertible. We're getting close to a complete list of components. One remaining item is new seats.
I am 6'5" 250 pounds and my son is 6'5" 295 pounds. All the seats we've seen at car shows and what we've seen on the web seem to be for smaller people. The side supports don't let us set back in the seat and the head rest hits us in the neck.
We're planning on rerouting the exhaust to side pipes and moving the transmission mount so we can drop the floor about 3 inches. Really! (It's not close to original.)
Is there anyone out there who can manufacture seats for us? At 55 I'm not looking for racing seats, I'd like something adjustable, comfortable with lumbar support. Electric controls would be awesome.
We could also start at the junkyard. Does anyone have any suggestions here on something that would fit us and still look ok in the Corvette.
Incidentally, as far as we can tell, the C2 Corvettes fit big guys better than any of the other models.
There are several guys here that are pretty tall. You shouldn't have any problems finding a seat that will fit you, the big challenge will be how far back and how low you can get it mounted.
corbeau make seats in a wide version for bigger guys, they have all the dimensions on their website, and they even have an option for an inflatable lumbar support on most of thier seats.
Thanks. It looks like a good possibility. They certainly make them wide enough for us. I've contacted them for more info.
Anyone else out there have an optional suggestion?
Does anyone make totally custom seats? Ie: tall as well as wide. The curve of most seats hits our backs wrong and folds our shoulders forward. and the headrest is usually a neck breaker...
