Default 2 Piece Main 383 to LT1 T56 Need help Fast!

If I get the Flywheel that mates the early SBC's to the LT1 T56 I would end up running the LT1 clutch setup correct? Im in a bind because Im trying to snag a tranny/clutch setup in the next hour or so off flea bay. If the LT1 RXT clutch will fit my application I'm going to drop the hammer on it. Thanks in advance, Kevin

With the conversion flywheel a standard small block clutch and disc (26 spline) can be used.

Thanks for the response. So the early style (2 piece) SBC and the LT1 clutch will bolt up the same to the conversion flywheel? I know it needs to be the 26 spline. Forgive my ignorance, I just don't have the experience with the manual setups.

Yes, with a conversion flywheel like the Centerforce 183-700107 They are the smaller 153 tooth ring gear so a starter swap might also be needed depending on which starter you have now.

You must use LT1 style clutch.
93-97 Camaro Only.

You might be able to change the bellhousing out to use a normal style clutch but the factory LT1 bellhousing only works with a LT1 style pull clutch because the bellhousing itself holds the hydraulic slave.

Check with quicktime on the bellhousing. They do a lot of conversion bell housings.

Don't let any of this stop you though. Putting an LT1 T56 behind a Gen I SBC is a great idea. The trans is strong and will only get stronger from a rebuild.

Thanks for the replys. I have already decided that Im going to go with a SFI approved scatter shield. The tranny will be used on a boosted application. Is there any significant difference in strength between the LT/LS T56? Im really trying to figure out if a good low mileage T56 is the way to go. I might just pony up and spent the extra 1000-1500 on a new magnum.

Haven't got it on the dyno yet. Depending on the boost level, I'm going to say all of 600hp. Its the V2 Vortec, its pretty damn efficient so I am thinking it will be a 150hp bolt on when its all said and done, at least. Im not sure what the tq. curve will do with a charger?

I have no problem spending the money up front if the magnum is that much better? I believe the Magnums are rated to 700hp/700tq. What are the LS/LT T56's rated to?
