Default Is too much exposure bad?

Hopefully Steve can chime in on this, I was wondering what you guys think about cars that are posted on the internet. There have been a few cars lately that are really nice high end builds with alot af internet exposure of their builds. It just seems that when they are shot in magazines, the coverage is small or not what I would of thought it should of been. Do magazines see these cars as less desirable for print because they've seen other forms of exposure? Maybe because I've already seen the car, I'm less impacted when seen in a magazine. I don't know? Maybe some of you guys that have had your car posted and then later shot for a magazine would know more. Steve of course is doing alot of both, but he is also an editor of a magazine.

Thanks,
Jack

I know that my sponsors like me updating weekly. It's good advertising for them. It also helped me get a 3 pager in Sport Truck Magazine and the truck is still being built.

I have shown a fair amount of pics of mine and it has had tons of coverage in magazines. It has had like 30 pages or so before it was painted. i think I'm doing good on the exposure for a decently cool project.

I think it has more to do with the editors and what they want to show and where there motivation is. If you build a bad ass car they are gonna want to cover it. If you build a 69 camaro with and Ls1 and an after market clip, big brakes, blah blah blah, even if it is totally bad ass, believe it or not it has been done once or twice. But if you build something new with fresh ideas and so on they are forced to show lots of coverage, because it is fresh and new.
And sponsors like repeat exposure which is usually on fresh and new ideas.

Just my 2 cents, And just to avoid the firing squad I want to build a clipped 68 camaro with and Ls engine and big brakes.

I've been thinking about this exact same thing. I was debating waiting until my car was done to debut it and keep it under raps until then but I figured the exposure would be good. I also like seeing car builds and checking in once in a while to see what they've been up to. Hopefully my project will be worthy of that and it will help get some sponsors.
How do magazine features usually happen?

Peace out!

Default Magazine cars

Magazines, although many are owned by the same company, are all independant products competing with eachother for newsstand and ad sales. They all want to have something unique to make them different from the others. If a car appears in mag X, it may by passed over by competing titles, even though the car may be completely deserving of mega-coverage.

I recall an example when a certain yellow Camaro built by a certain member of the Pro Touring community was featured on 5 or 6 covers in the same month... it seemed every editor was pulling his hair out because the car was "everywhere".

Imagine if you built your dream car and 5 other people built the same car - exactly the same car - and you all showed up at the same show. It's kind of similar in the magazine world. They all want to stand out.

Personally, I don't care if it has been done before, I just want the car that I want. With that said, I love seeing new ideas and new directions, but that also has to be tempered with common sense. You can't just build outside the box for the sake of being outside the box. A lot of times there's a reason why something hasn't been done before.

I should add that magazines are trying their best to stay alive. The internet and sites like ours have been the reason for their steadlily declining numbers and ad revenue. A review of the circulation numbers of any of the big name automotive magazines drives that home.

We don't care if it's all over the internet, just if it's been in other magazines
