Default Autobahn and Spa Eau Rouge

I have been on a road trip down Europe the last few days. My daughter has been working as an Aupair in Luxembourg and as all women they accumulate stuff in truckloads over the time. So to avoid 200 pounds of overweight on the flight I went there to pick up everything. It is almost a 1000 mile drive from Stockholm.

I thought I share some fun experiences. For those of you that haven't driven on the German Autobahn I'll tell you it is awesome. Average cruising speed is around 100 mph and that is what everyone does even in the right lane unless you are a truck. Small deliveryvans do 100. The fun part is when the fat Audi's, BMW's and Mercedes' come and drive by at 130-150 mph. It's like you are standing still although your speedo shows 100 mph!!! This was also in pretty bad weather around the freezingpoint and sleeze! The weather went better when we got further south in Germany, the picture is from outside Hannover going at 95mph. I had an average speed from Stockholm to Luxembourg of 112 kph (70 mph over 975 miles). Pretty good!

My other and best experience was when we went by the Formula One circuit of Spa (Belgian GP). It is just about one hour drive from Luxembourg. I just wanted to see the famous Eau Rouge curve and it is awesome. To see it in real is totally different than on TV. It is a WALL! If you follow the F1 you know how the drivers appraise the Eau Rouge as the most daring curve in the world and they all try to make it flat out. After seeing it for real I can just say those guys are in for a fun drive. The downhill going to Eau Rouge is steep but the uphill after is like a downhill skiislope, just amazing.

The gates to the track was open so we went in to the paddock. It was late in the afternoon and it had just started to get dark and it was 2 inches of snow. Another day it might have been possible to just drive the track.

At the entrance to the track the memorial stone of Ayrton Senna is placed. An emotional moment to see that, he was my hero.

Other sites on the way home was Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Lübeck in Germany.

That's awesome, Jan. Standing in the paddock and looking at Eau Rouge must have been incredible... so much history.

Wow Jan. I was a huge Ayrton Senna fan too. Just an incredible talent. One thing I remember about him is how much he liked Dale Earnhardt and what a talent he thought Dale was. I guess the great ones recognize each other.

Awesome Jan. I bet you would have a great time on the Autobahn with your 69 in good weather.
Wish we had a highway like that here so I could see how fast my camaro would go with the 6 speed.

Could I be any more jealous? Yeah, Senna's passing marked the end of an era for sure.
