G-link with 12-200 spring - Lateral-g Forums

Guy's i no this has been touched on a thousand times but im going to order some new springs to lower my car down a little more (69 camaro) and was wondering about some spring suggestions,it has a 12-200 in it now and was leaning toward a 8-200,the car is just street driven and i also do some 1/8 mile drag racing no autocross or anything,car just needs to set a little lower and i've got the shock mounts in the lowest setting.THANKS!

I would have thought you would change the rate to lower the car, not use a shorter spring of the same rate. But I am usually out in the weeds...

Let's see if one of the experts weighs in....

Make sure your shock is roughly centered in it's travel at ride height when you are finished. If it is right now then you cannot make it much lower, expecially for a street driven car.

Yea that's me to it can be confusing,like you said lets see if we can get some expert opinions and a softer spring sounds better because the car is stiff as hell but it could be in the adjustment also(QA1 double adjustable shocks)but there on the softest setting.THANKS!

you would also need to run shorter shocks if you want it lower. otherwise you could bottom out the shocks.

Here is my setup with a shorter spring. I'm not sure if the the shop that did the install used 8" or 10" springs but I measured and photographed them compressed.

Rybar thanks for the pics,i've searched a lot of threads on this and it seems that some have used the 8in spring and it worked fine may just try it and see, if it doesn't work out want be the first time I've made a mistake with this build LOL.Btw love your car it's a work of art for sure,man i wish could get a pair of those tailpipes guessing they were made in your part of the world.THANKS!

Fillpot, There are several ways to lower the car without making such a drastic spring change. Let's see if we can't get this figured out. Here are some questions that I would ask if we were on the phone.

How much lower are you trying to get the car?
With the suspension loaded, what does the shock measure from eye to eye?
With the suspension loaded, what is the compressed length of the spring?
Do you have single or double adjustable shocks?

Do NOT change to an 8" spring. It will be close to coil bind by the time it accepts the full weight of the car. This is potentially damaging to the shock.

He assisted me with the same situation on my car and we ended up with the longer spring but a lower height and its worked out good for me. Unfortunately I don't remember the exact spring we went with, but he might have it on record... I could also crawl under there tonight and look if it would help.
