Default Built Not Bought article LOL!

I dont post much here as I started over at PT. That place seems to have attracted quite of bit of trolls that bring nothing to the table lately. Perhaps LatG is a better place to put my stick in the mud and fling some ****.

That being said. The article by Tim King is weapons grade derp!
https://lateral-g.net/is-built-not-bo...ing-the-hobby/

There is a lot of work, waisted money, efforts, pride even relationships put into most if not all of these cars we’re building. I’m not saying a “Buyer" is a lesser man because he didn’t build it himself but there is a special category for those who have the skill set or learned it then execute.

The analogies in the article are not relevant.

Most of the best music is made by novices early on in their career when they are creative on the outside looking in. Generally if people like what they put out their intellectual property (Music) has a monetary value. Just like our cars. Are you a poser if you listen to it? No! Are you a poser if you dress and act like like Billy Joe from Green Day because you bought the album. Yes! Are you a poser if you bought a car at Barrett Jackson and act like you built it? Yes!

Beer is made by Brewers. I’m a beer snob and prefer German Bier. Spaten Oktoberfest is my favorite brew. I appreciate their efforts and trade my hard earned currency for their craft. Not much more to say here....

Jay Leno. I’ve got no reason to dislike the guy other than he’s a liberal. He’s a rich guy with a bunch of toys that he has paid staff to build or rebuild for him. Not in the same category as a “Built” guy.

My cousin built his 64 Nova while he was a Sophomore in High school. It was tubbed by him and my Uncle and set up as a pro street car. 1990’s. The car was stolen from the school parking lot while he was in class. 15 years go by and he notices the car with new paint at a local car show swap meet. He looks in the trunk and sees his craftsmanship. It’s his car that was stolen. He calls the cops, they seize the car and find the hidden VIN returning the car to his ownership. That’s what “Built” is all about.

At the end of the day if you “Built” there is a different level of respect. Much like The Clash > Backstreet boys.

LOL...Donnie is quite a prolific and talented car BUILDER.

And every time that I've been to Leno's garage he's been elbow deep into a car himself.

As a car BUILDER, I have a great deal of respect for the car BUYER who makes it possible for me to BUILD the next one.

As a car BUYER, I have a great deal of respect for the builder whose car I just bought so I didn't have to spend the time building a car that I really like.

No, I agree that the article is dumb but your post was the same. Both are opinions from the author, there is no factual data in either, just anecdotal evidence to support a position on a topic of debate. I only skimmed the article, only because you linked to it, it doesn't interest me.....it's just clickbait as is your post. I took the bait with your post and actually laughed out loud when I read

Quote:

and then you proceeded with your troll post.

We _all_ play with cars, that's the point. Why people feel the need sub divide our group of car people I never understood. Imports vs Domestic, drag racer vs road racer vs autocrosser, street rods vs street machines, etc, etc,

Arguing about who is awesomer only proves who isn't.

Next time you become ill, don't go to a doctor, read the Physicians Desk Reference book. I will then think more highly of you.

Welcome to the site sh!t flinger, it's a great hang out with a bunch of good people.

I read the article and was thinking to myself....who cares? Other then the folks that say that did the work when they didn't I don't think it really matters. If I had Jay Lenos money I'd be buying more tools and teaching myself how to use them, I'd also be buying every car I thought I needed.

Round here you've got builders and buyers, guys that make 100k a year and guys that make millions a year. For the most part the respect here is even across the board, as long as you're not a Richard......don't be a Richard.
