Default SF Bay Area 1969 Camaro Build

Sitting outside the week before the teardown. The car actually drove really good, except for some wicked ball joint noises!

These before and after shots will show you why I'm so happy with my bodyshop.

Rusted dash before:

The rusted dash before I sent it to media blasting:

I wonder how many Camaros don't have this problem? Original owner clear siliconed the stainless trim in, took days to remove them from the car.

New Sherman dash installed. Great piece, highly recommended.

Nice start! Sometimes it sure can take a lot to bring these cars back from the near dead! Hopefully that was the worst of it...what did you find after blasting?

Goodmark panel, we all know the story with these. Took a bit of time but overall, looks great. Notice the small hole close to the corner, drain hole that leads to the trunk, I still have to decide where I'm going to run the drain outside.

This isn't the first Camaro these guys have done.

Obligatory rotisserie shot:

Final assembled check before blocking and paint:

The paint on the dash is 10% gloss, everything else is 60% gloss HOK Jet Black.

DSE firewall fill plate was an easy addition. I wanted to keep the upper seam to keep more of a "stock" look to the car.

Under body gloss and the tail panel are the same gloss, might as well keep it simple right?

You can just make out the rolled fender well lip above, no chance of cutting a tire here.

The weekend it was to be painted I had made plans to attend the Reno Air Races. This is how it looked the day I left, so close!

First picture taken by the shop and emailed to me in Reno, color doesn't look right in these photos:

Only two coats of clear on the doors here, one coat was to be scuffed off before the stencils were applied:

Stencils being laid out:

Raw finish here, hasn't been color sanded and polished. I had all the emblems and script removed except for the Camaro emblem on the dash.

First time I saw a polished panel, just about had to wipe a tear from my eye.

That roof has a history, hopefully it's behind me.

Pilkington Classic Glass going in, factory tint all the way around.

All original stainless trim, straightened and polished locally at Accessories Plus in Belmont.

Those in the know, know Ron! Great guy to have in your corner.

I've posted this photo before but I just love that blacked out tail panel. Plus you can just see the greens and blues that the Audi color shows off in person.

Myers Sandblasting in San Lorenzo did a very thorough job. They even removed the undercoating on the INSIDE of the doors. It turns out that there was a few pinholes that surfaced after doing that. Wouldn't have caught it without them, thus saved the car from future paint problems in that area.

There was some serious bondo work in the rear lower valance panel that pretty amusing. Must have been someone's first attempt.
