I know that it takes a Lenco to back up SERIOUS HP on sticky slicks but I think those production MOPAR Transmissions are also very good alternatives when you use your slippery and skinny lowprofile tires

While they will never dead hook, there are some nice high tech gadgets available to ensure that you can keep tire slip right around 10%.

I think Valient65's point is very significant. Regular tires cannot come close to handling big hp/tq in lower gears. So the tires to road contact(or lack off) is like a relief valve for the entire drive train. Even thought an engine can make over 1000 hp, with non slick tires, only so much can be put to the ground. So, the entire drive train only needs to be strong enough for what the tire/road friction can keep planted.
