Are you going to convert to five lug hubs?

If so, BMW wheels might be a solution for you if you don't want to pay aftermarket pricing. Style 5 and Style 42 rims are typically easy to find in 17 inch. Widths will be limited to 7 or 8 inches though.

Also, how important is handling to you over looks? You may have issues with pushing/understeer putting an 11 on the back with an 8 up front. Can you go wider in the front?

I like your idea in general though. A mesh wheel is a classic look that will complement the car well in a more modern size.
