Default Need some Fuel Guage help

I have autometer ultralight meters in my 67. long story short the float for the sending unit got hung up inside the tank so it was readinh 3/4 of a tank when it went dry yesterday. anyways i dropped the tank and relocated the position of the sending unit and replaced the tank. in doing so i pinched my power lead to the sending unit between the filler neck and the sleeve. now the guage is pegged out past the full mark on the guage and doesnt move at all. i have 6 volts at the sending unit but im pretty sure i should have 12 correct? did i cook the guage somehow? or does it ound like a short. any help is appreciated. thanks
