I used the Red Roberts (McLeod) shifter on my GTO T56. The offset is 2" left and 2" rearward but it can go forward 2" and up to 2" either left or right from center point. I can get you a better pic if you'd like.

Does it feel weird to shift not having the piviot point centered under the handle?

I have not driven the car yet but sitting in it and going through the gears you can't tell any differance. Very solid - if a boot was on there you wouldn't know where the center point was.

Its a std f-body plate. I bought mine directly from Red (he works out of his garage to make them) but they are on McLeod's site also:
http://www.mcleodracing.com/categories/Shifters.mcl There isn't one pictured for the T56.
Just in case you don't know Red founded the company in 1971. If you call McLeod tech support Red is often there answering questions.

Should also mention his shifter does not require changing out the ball recepticle (I forgot the "correct" name for it).
