I'm staying clear of the 1st Gen vs. 2nd Gen fight! Aim all slingshots, guns, knives, etc... at Greg Weld.

Thanks Gonzo, The chassis was designed so that everything would be tucked up inside of it. The frame rails and front crossmember will be the lowest point. That gives the ability to have a low ride height with out any clearance issues of things hitting under the car.

A little more progress on this build. unfortunately it isn't the cool, exciting stuff. This was supposed to be a solid, original car that was just primed before the owner purchased it. Well, it was solid if you consider gallons of bondo and fiberglass "solid". So, the last week has been spent on fixing poorly repaired rust.

While finishing the cage, we noticed some fiberglass in the bottom of the windshield area. That was ground out to find this.


The entire top of the cowl and dash was removed and has since been blasted.


There were a few areas in the bottom of the cowl sides that needed more attention as well.


When we started lining up the doors, we found that the driver door was packed with mud.


That door wasn't salvageable so we re-skinned it. the passenger door wasn't as bad and we were able to metal finish it out.


There were a few other small spots around the car that needed attention. We would normally blast the car down to bare metal before beginning any work, but were told that the car was in perfect condition, and just primed to prevent rust. We took the guys word and never really looked into anything too closely to inspect it until now, and found a few surprises.

That sucks. I'm glad you found it all. This level of build really should not include gallons of bondo.

We were waiting for a few more sheet metal pieces to come back from the media blaster and acid dipper. Now that the fenders and hood are back, we were able to final assemble the front end.

With the low ride height the tires ended up coming really close to the hood hinges and inside portion of the fender. So, that area was removed and the hood hinges were moved back to gain the necessary room. The Ring Brothers were nice enough to send down a set of hinges for us to mock up the hood with to make sure that everything still functioned properly when relocated.



Fabbing new inner fenders is the next step.
