If you're talking about the 6.0's, I don't think there's much truth to that. The injectors do run off the oil (hydro-electric), that's true. I own an 03 F-250 with the Powerstroke and joined a powerstroke forum awhile ago. Most everyone on that site recommends a good quality diesel spec synthetic and oil changes every 5000. Injectors on that thing are around $250 each for remanufactured units, so good oil is a small price to pay for that extra piece of mind. I use Rotella T-6, but I'm positive Amsoil has an excellent product for this purpose. Also, check out a product called Archoil AR-9100, it's supposed to help with the stiction issues these trucks have.
If you're talking about the brand new Powerstroke, injector design has changed and I'm fairly certain it's now a common rail system
