Hi Jimi (I'm assuming its you anyway),

I have a question on the rules. There is a contradiction in the General Rules, Section 1, #28 says:
"The use of racing fire protection gear, neck restraint system and fire retardant shoes/gloves is highly recommended for all run groups and mandatory for Run Group A"

In the Road Course, Section 5, "Run Group C, Novice" it says:
"Safety Equipment required for Run Group C
○ Helmet – SA2005 or better
○ Neck restraint – Hans style, or SFI certified neck collar
○ Minimum - factory or better 3 point safety belts
○ Cotton or fire retardant long sleeves
○ Cotton or fire retardant long pants
○ Fire retardant gloves
○ Fire retardant shoes"

I'm good on the helmet, harness, and I even bought a HANS, but I don't have fire retardant gloves or shoes.

Hoping you could clarify the rules for us.

Aaron, if you spent the $500-1000 for a HANS (assuming it was new) then spend $100-200 and get the gloves and shoes!

Hi Aaron,

Yup it's Jimi. Just as the others posted, the gloves and shoes are a relatively small expense compared to the HANS. But, leather shoes and gloves qualify as "fire retardant". I'm looking forward to seeing you at an event.

Hey Jimi, don't get me wrong, I'm not opposed to buying more stuff, especially safety equipment. The way the rules are listed, I was hoping you could clarify the rules for myself and others which probably have similar questions. Last thing anybody wants to do is show up and can't run.

I'm looking forward to Daytona as well, just want to be fully prepared. I'm looking at this as one of those "once in a lifetime" events.

Aaron, thanks for pointing out the what is certainly a confusing section of the rules. We will be making a few rules updates and changes later in the year and we'll be sure to correct that.

For now, please refer to section 5 for the detailed safety requirements for each run group.

Jimi, could you clarify something for me. Are you scaling the cars at your events while they go through tech inspection? Or are you just grouping cars by manufactured production weight numbers. The "Dry weight" verbiage is throwing me off.

If you're scaling them, for the under 3,000lbs class vs the over 3,000lbs, is that with the driver or without.
