Yeah, at first I thought
it was all Haiku, but then
it was not Haiku.

When I go to various events -- I always like to talk tires with the folks that really know and test the differences between brands. It seems to be a moving target where everyone is hot on one tire or brand - and then the other guy comes out with a new or improved version and bam! Then that's the hot ticket... Right now it's the BFG. They have done an amazing job supporting "what we do".

For anyone that has never run on a set of Hoosiers.... Well... While they're not "legal" for many of the events we follow (OUSCI) -- once a guy has used some he'll be hooked. It's why I like track days -- ya get to run what you want.

Default Tire Testing

Yes the Hoosiers are the best for tracking although not all the sizes are
available... running a Hankook SCCA spec tire on the front that is also
a dot road race tire.. it is a shorter tire which the Pantera likes out front
It works better than anything else I have had there but that might also
be because the front end rides lower and works better

Bridgestones are supposed to be the best in 200 rated tires but
they still do not make a tire larger than 275.... several of the local
guys just run the 275s all the way around since it is such a good tire

Rival S tires are supposed to be a close second... Been waiting on
pulling the trigger on them but wonder if Bridgestone will make a larger tire

Tire manufacturers are still playing with this new 200 thing so each
year there are some new players etc... time will tell

Tough thing is getting your size and then when they make it they
are on back order.. sometimes for ever

Like I said these 200 tires are a lot better than I ever thought they would
ever be... it was a good test to see how a real tire worked vs this 200 thing

Just as long as people understand that 200 number is complete BS... because it's a "relative" TW rating compared to other tires IN THAT BRAND/LINE... it's not a true comparison of one brands tire to the other brand. It's supposed to be.... but this is NOT a government tested program. The ratings are set by the manufacture and then they have 6 months of "actual road use" testing etc.

Copied from The Tire Racks website:

Unfortunately, the rating that is of the most interest to consumers is the one that appears to be the least consistent. While the Treadwear Grade was originally intended to be assigned purely scientifically, it has also become a marketing tool used by manufacturers to help position and promote their tires.

UNQUOTE:

In other words -- one guys 200 might be the other guys 140.... These tests just aren't scientific and there's lots of fudge room.

Default Tire Testing

Greg,
I understand what you are saying.. these 200 tires today
are pushing the limits.. but if the rules say it needs to say
200 and they buy it then so be it

If it were not for Optima or Goodguys I would not even
be thinking of running the 200 tires

Well maybe.. there is a local guy with a 66 gto clone
and and LS that I want to go run against in the CAM class

Ergo why Michelin took the Pilot Sport Cup from 80 to 180 last year.

like when the KDW's on a Blue Camaro at Run TO the Coast were all balled up and needed to be cooled with water spray, and everyone else running Falkens had noting similar going on.
The durometer rating on the new BFG S is somewhere around 40 that is a o TW tire
If Goodyear stamped 200tw in the side of a NASCAR tire I guess they would also be legal????

it is just a game. Falken is coming out with a new compound on the 615 lat this year as well.

Before that internet lore takes off.....

Durometer is about as useful as a treadwear number when it comes to determining grip.

I hope Falken Brings their A game with the new 615 because then we all win.....and honestly, it is going to take a lot to run with RE71s and the RivalS. Speaking of RivalS, there is supposed to be a carcass design change to sharpen its transitional response.

Why isn't anybody talking about the Kumho V720? 355s and 295s for the new viper with 200tw stamped on the side.
