Thumbs up Hello from Down Under

Hi I am new to this site, and I am building a 69 Camaro with 509 cube Merlin 575 rwhp, down under in Western Australia, at the moment it is more pro street, but I am about to embark on pro touring conversion. Any way I am looking for good manuals for the re build, can you please recommend what ones are best.

Regards
Greg

Greg,

I am in Melb, building a 68 that's cross between Pro street and Pro Tour and will be running a 632 cube Merlin III BBC.

jump on www.usmuscle.com.au it's a great little Oz forum with a bunch of like minded guys.

Keep us updated on your build.

Chris

Hi Greg, And welcome to the site. I have not read this myself but if
you are looking for "How To's" try this. http://www.racehome.com/books.htm
I don't know of others. I am sure some of the members here will know more or at least can give first hand knowledge of the book above. Post some pics of your project!

Thank you for the warm welcome,
I will be in the States in July for a holiday with the family and I will organise a container to send all my shopping list home at the same time, I will call on help to choose some parts as I have so much to buy and will need help to choose things like brakes, Willwood or Bear, Five speed or six speed Tremec, DSE or one of the many subframes and rear ends also wheel sizes. I really like the finish on Scott Whittbys car and I will build this car along that lines but more race car as when I am finished with a couple of our big car shows I would like to race it at some of our tarmac rally's.
I will keep you posted of its progress as I will start to strip the car soon as I own a Soda blasting buissiness. And as soon as I work out how to post Pic's I will.

Greg

Welcome Tonner,

As far as transmission choice goes, it depends on how you will use the car. Do you plan to spend a lot of time flying across the open spaces Down Under, or will you be racing on a tight road course?

I just put in a 6-speed from Keisler that is rated at 650 ft-lbs, and I love it. It was pricey though, at around $5,000 USD. When I spoke with them, they were very willing to dicsuss rear end gear ratio, transmission strength requirements, installation tips, and even electronic speedometer wiring.

There are a number of companies building these high strength units. I don't know about the other companies, but Keisler needs some time to put it together. You may want to order ahead of time if you plan to ship it yourself.
