Wilwood forged superlite brakes???

Ok.. Im gonna drop the hammer. Ive been looking high and low for some 13" disc brakes for my 62 with MII front. Ive actually checked it all. Saw some nice setup where you can use the Cobra 13" system. The guy makes the brackets and he gives the instructions to use the cobra brakes on the MII spindle. But you have to use the early ford drum hubs. They use the same bearings as the MII spindle and mount up to the cobra discs. But HEAVY is the key word. Full cast iron disc and steel hub. Its pretty inexpensive as far as 13" brakes go but pretty close in cost.

So then there is the CPP 13" setup. They use a full cast iron disc too and some cadillac escalade calipers ( as far as I have come up with, not for certain, CPP?) What I really like is the ability to use off the shelf pads when its time to change. But after checking the diameter its giving me .001" of clearance to remove the wheel. I have billet specialties 17" wheels and the center rib (two inches wide is all) on the wheel is 15". It opens up past that rib so the wheel wouldnt be spinning that close. But I dont think I can get my wheel over the caliper.

So I was looking for a cost effective way to stuff some 13" discs on the front and came up with the less expensive route. Wilwood.

So Im gonna drop the hammer this monday unless I hear some alternative responses or negative issues with the system.

I am gonna go with the 13"x 1.10" black E-coat disc, zinc is 50 bucks more. Four piston forged superlite calipers and a zero offset hub. All the bearings and seals and everything needed including the custom zero offset bracket. Its a kit.

Now the kicker is Im spending 300 bucks more for the zero offset. Because its not a off the shelf item it doesnt get the high volume discount. But I really need that zero offset cause I bought my wheels already for the granda 11" discs that are on it already. And I really cant move the wheel out the additional .680" Which sucks cause for the same money I could have the 6 piston superlites. They are a off the shelf deep discount item. And I crunched the numbers. I could buy the off the shelf 6 piston setup along with the zero offset hubs but I would be left with 300 dollars of new hubs (off the shelf hubs) to try and sell. I could make the bracket myself..

But Im thinking the 4 piston forged superlites are gonna suit the needs. And really, I would have jumped on the CPP setup for half the money. But the calipers are so tall they just wont clear the 17" BS wheels. What a shame...

So anyway.. Whadda you think???? The superlites? They are the forged superlites. Any reviews?? Anyone using them.

This is dipping into my budget. I have X amount of money to finish the car. I dont see any other work around besides the wilwoods. Any feedback would ease my mind at this point guys.. JR

I don't have a review for you, but from what I have seen there are three places to check for pricing. You need to check with PRRC (Paradise Road Rod & Custom), Prodigy Customs, and Iron Works. They are all site vendors. Tim at PRRC set us up with ours and were great to deal with. Frank from Prodigy and Roger from Iron Works are also top notch guys. Don't buy until you you talk to one of these guys.

Yeah, yer totally right. But one problemo.. Zero offset hubs are an easy buy from WW but the bracket is made by Hot Rods USA, I think. So thats where Im at so far. And Dean is treating me right so no complaints there. Thanks, JR

I don't know what your budget is, but you might want to download our fitment template for the 325mm C5/C6 setup and check your wheels to see if might even be an option. The MII kits haven't been added to the site yet, but are available in either 5x4.5 or 5x4.75 options with the 2.776 center hub snout and have the same offset as the Granada 11" disc setup.

Hi Tobin. Yup, got it in my grubby lil hand. Actually it was the first one I checked out. What kills the deal is the same with the CPP brakes. The 7.74" from the center to the top of the caliper. 15.48" is .48" TOO much. Damn.. My Billet Specialties wheels have a rib that sticks out some and only allows a 15" clearance. Thanks though.
