Default How to repair this?

So I banged up a rim yesterday. It's the rear passenger side wheel. It's a 17" x 8" rim, and it's made of billet aluminum.

There is a shop in town that repair wheels, but I've heard they actually ruin more rims than they repair. Is this something I can fix myself? Someone told me use some wood and a slesgehammer to bang it out again...
Or should I buy a new one? They're only $447.70.
