Default Catalina

Hello,

I'm still on the way to G-restore my 72 Skylark, but i just met a new obstacle as i have to find another job! I had an aircooled VW shop with a "friend" and he decided to give an end to our association...So i have to leave and i will not have a place to start the Buick until i find another job (start another VW shop, perhaps!) or move to another house with a big garage and buy new tools...
I 've just purchased a station wagon....a 1968 Pontiac Catalina...
There is little work on it as he hasn't run for 10 years!
It was originally a 400ci V8 but it has been replaced (in 1970) by a Chevy 6 cylinder (due to high taxes on big engines in Belgium) i'm not too disappointed as the fuel price here is expensive and as a daily driver it will be fine...
There is rust at the bottom of the rear fenders and reserve wheel tank but the body is very nice, some welding and a new paint will do the job. There are some holes on the body as it has been modified to be a hearse during its lifetime...
I will redo the brakes and all the mecanic...lower the suspensions and fit some 17x8 Cragar 390N wheels.
It will not be a show car but i will try to do it as clean as possible.

I wanted to have my Buick ready for this summer, but it will be hard to respect this schedule, as i want the car to be done meticulously and in comfort, not in the hurry...

Do you have an idea where i could find Pontiac parts, i tried pontiacforum.com but it doesn't work! I need a glove box lock

It has been a while since i last came here, due to professionnal job and problems, but now i see the end of the tunnel, so my Pro-Touring Buick project will move in the right direction....

I've been driving the Pontiac for a year now, without bags...
it's a real pleasure to drive, and this sort of car is very uncommon overhere, people stare at it with big eyes and open mouth...

She is in need for a good resto job, but for instance i must work on the Buick (Skylark see my other thread), for which i will receive all the last needed parts in 1 or 2 month.

But concerning the Poncho, i could have some plans for it...in a near future...(next project after the Buick)
-a serious engine (in place of the L6)
-serious 4 discs brakes (in place of the 4 drums)
-good, upgraded suspension
-a complete restoration

or in a dream
-corvette suspension with bags
-big big brakes ( Brembos for example)
-500ci + engine with 2 turbos
-full roll cage
-4 buckets seats
it's good to sometimes dream a little bit....and better to do our dreams come true..

Happy to be back and enjoying US cars and specially pro-touring...
Special thanks to POPULAR HOT RODDING which show us some very nice cars, and is the leading magazine for G lovers...

See you soon
