DSE Mini tub kit questions for 68 camaro

Ive just got a few quick questions about the DSE mini tub kit.

1. Is it necessary to narrow the rearend to get the full backspacing allowed by the kit? If it does, how much does it need to be narrowed on with a 68 camaro 12 bolt?

2. Does the gas tank absolutely need to be narrowed? I'm on a really tight budget, so anything I absolutely don't need would help. If the gas tank needs to be narrowed what are the dimensions on it? Again it would be a 67-69 Gas tank.

The rear end does not HAVE to be narrowed. Most people narrow the rear so that they can get a little extra lip on their wheels.

Unless you plan on doing the Quadralink, The G-bar setup, or something else that eliminates your leafsprings and stock shock mount locations, you will need a narrowed gas tank. The minitub kit requires leaf springs to be relocated inward a couple inches, and the stock gas tank gets in the way.

The minitubs are a lot of work, so if I were you I would consider calling a few fab shops in your area, and maybe even DSE to see what they normally charge for the work. The cost of good labor will probably outweigh the cost of parts.

about how much extra lip, i would like to have wheels with quite a bit of lip on them, about how much could i do without narrowing the rear?

my rear end was not narrowed and I think I have a decent amount of lip on the rear wheels.



those wheels actually fit on my car before it was minitubbed, so they arent nearly as wide as they potentially could be.

I like that a lot! You just mini tubbed it so that you wouldn't have the tires rub the lip or the inner wheel house? And are you saying after you mini tubbed you could fit even bigger tires on it, than the ones in that pic?

What sizes BTW? Just to get an idea about how big they are.

the wheels and tires in the pic fit without minitubbing... just not very well.
those are 18x10 w/ 5.75 inches backspacing and a 295.

since the car is now minitubbed, im going to have the rear wheels widened to 12, so i will be able to run a 315 or larger.

hah, thats a pretty logical solution.

i'm not at all trying to criticize any of your work, because it looks good, but do you think the floor is strong enough to hold with all the weight centralized in one small spot?

the guys who re building my car are raceing in the netherlands and in belgium, mainly at spa and zolder ecetera http://www.belcar.com if you click the belcar historic sprint and then select media then fotos you see a red 68 camaro racer!! . they are masters in craftmanship and know ezackly how to make stuf work keep it riged and strong and keep weight down , infact lots of protouring stuf i bought to use on the car they laughft about!!!!(the dse mini tub h beam was one of them), but i convinsed them its a 70% daily street driven car and 30% race car so they mainly go along with what i whant.. anyway dont worry about the struktural integrety of the simple solution it works!!!!!!!!!!!!.............
