Thumbs up

Hey Jason,

Killer Z!
We got ours from another Jason, Jason Wyrick who has some very nice pics of the car on this web site. He also got one of his pictures in the latest issue of Popular Hotrodding.

Default hood styles

I am partial to cowl. 2" is safe. IMO taller the better. Big NOGO on the L88, for some reason it has a bad rep. I think you might have something with the small vents. Placed properly they might be the ticket as an option to set off the stock hood. To appeal to the masses, I think a stock hood and a 2" cowl will be your best bet for offerings. I think you should cut out the small vent lines and insert large pieces of your octagon mesh (I think you metioned this in the post?). That would look great. IMO

Although I don't mind a 2" cowl hood, I think the styling belongs on the first gen inwhich it was originally designed for. If you look at the design language of the second gen, it is much more about softer compound curves, while the fist gen has harder corners. The straight, relatively slab sided cowl induction just looks a little out of place on the second gen car. I think that a more curvelinear version could work with the sides flared out towards the rear from a top view to match the lines of the hood. I was intending to modify the L-88 to go along with the hood better, but everyone seems so against it, I don't think I will even entertain that idea now.
If we go with a stock style hood, I was thinking of cutting out the vents and making them a 1 or 2 opening affair backed up with a hexagonal mesh like our first gen cowl panel. Would people rather have that, or just smooth over the vent holes altogether?
We are working on some sketches which I will post tomorrow.

Thanks again,
MaTT

YES! I totally agree with your theory on 2nd gen design language and would love to see a flat aftermarket hood. You need to design the scoop that is on your homepage for a 1st and 2nd gen NOW! With all the late model efi motors in these cars, there is no reason for a traditional cowl hood because it feeds air 3' from the throttle body and the motors are so low profile, there's already tons of clearance under a flat stock hood. I dig the extractor vents as an option and would probably smooth right over the cowl vents.

The L-88 hood just screams 1979.

I have a lot of clients ask for cowl hoods on their Camaros and I will change their minds to that new scoop if you make it! That could be one of the coolest new products and people need an option between stock or cowl induction.

I guess the real question is, does anybody want a stock style cf hood with no whistles and bells?

Best, MaTT

I like the original flat hood, but 2 of the small vents might look good molded in, especially if they were reshaped to follow the lines of the nose on the car. Also, the teardrop scoop found on the 78ish z/28 might look good if it were made functional and molded in properly.

Just my 2 cents.

I like #5 if it was a little more teardrop like the factory had it. Just me though.... And I'm loopy.

Man, 3 is it! But without the vents. It looks subtle, but in person I think it would really give the car a mean look. It would take some playing with the rear height to really nail it, but I think that would be the perfect option away from a traditional cowl. It just seems so obvious to follow the original hood lines I can believe I have'nt seen it before. My 2 cents.
