Default Bad temp sending unit?

Hi, all,

I just purchased a new '69 project car and it's a little banged up... I've managed to get the engine running after some semi-minor carb adjustments. Now, however, when I try to turn the engine over, the "temp" light comes on (on the dash) and the starter does nothing. The engine is a big-block '71 Chevelle, and the wiring harness is some sort of Frakenstein half-Camaro, half-Chevelle beast. Is there some easy way to disable this, by disconnecting some stuff inside the dash?

Cheers.
