I recently tried out a new product on my frame to see if it works, Zero Rust. It's supposed to be similar to POR15.

I'm not bashing the product (did that all day today), but I just want to let fella entusiast know of my bad experience with it. Long story short I put this stuff on about a month and a half ago & let it sit in the garage. Today I go out there and notice a rough spot like it was trying to pucker. I rub it with my thumb and lo and behold it comes off, exposing my frame's precious metal. I think I will just take it to get blasted and powedercoated. Shoulda done it the 1st time around.

all of those products are a joke, next time how ever you get it to metal either etch prime and urethane prime it or go ahead andf epoxy prime it to keep it from rusting.
there are no save all rust stoppers, the only one i know of is sandblasting till clean and refinishing, i live in maine so its part of daily life here

I've been using it - on the underside of car and inner panels. I always take it down to bare metal first, and treat with picklex rust converter. I don't have any rust though, mind you - just doing this to help prevent it. Any rust found is sanded clean off or metal repaired. Seems to be holding up fine so far, 6+ months into it.

6 months is not long enough for it to last well, are the areas going to be painted?? what happens when the stuff is painted and sealed up over?? there is a reason these type products are not in body shops

Well mine was light rust that was taken down to metal. I used Metal Ready and then sprayed 2 coats on. If it works for you Rockdogz, more power to ya. Maybe something went wrong with mine but, I sure won't buy anymore and try it again.

Maybe Just try POR-15 next time. Worked for me. A little more expensive, yes, but a great product that works. Good Luck!

I have a rust bucket 69 camaro and have been debating on media blasting the entire car or making the long haul up to Detroit to have the car sunk in the chemical strip bath and then e-coated. A little difference in cost but I think the e-coat thing would ensure a long lasting rust free body.

I plan on keeping the car so I suppose it would be for more peace of mind. Trouble is….that is a hell of a long drive from Memphis!!

Well, that's the thing, I've tried POR15 with great result but I knew I would have to topcoat it for my frame. I figured I could save alittle change by just using Zero Rust because it doesn't need a topcoat.

TNdude, there is a place on Democrat that soda blasts cars, unless you were dead set on the chemical stuff. 794-2502, the guy's name is Rick. He also may know somebody that does E-coating locally.

T Bell....stay away from POR-15 too. That stuff failed on me...and I did everything right too. Now next year I have to strip my frame back to bare metal and I plan to etch prime and coat with Chroma1.

Thanks T-Bell, do you think that would take care of the rust? I don't want to do this twice. By the time I replace all the metal that needs replacing....I may not need to do anything. ( ha, ha). I'm taking a welding class right now because I want to do all the work myself.

Thanks for the lead on the shop here in town. I certainly will give him a call.
