When I first started racing I frequently got the speech from my grandfather that stated “General Motors spent millions developing that part. What makes you think that you can make it better?!?!”
Well Gramps guess what, the guys building the
Smokin SS hunted high and low for some decent door hinges only to find nothing better than the ones they already had. So they decided to fix them. They machined a part to fit the door pin in, added a zerk and TIG welded it in place. This hinge had multiple replacement brass bushings and was wallered out. If you notice they also debured and smoothed out all the rough edges.
