FWIW - you can always simply try it and periodically keep an eye on the bungs and make sure you don't see cracking or leaking around them. But you will be surprised what kind of loads you can induce into a full fuel tank and I (honestly) have seen more than a few failed mounting schemes, but I have also been around a lot of racing which induces G-loading on a regular basis v. a cruiser like you are building. Typically you will see people build and weld in a very solid frame to drop it onto and then metal strap it into place.

Hey Tim! Thanks for giving me your opinion. I really do appreciate it! I thought about what you just described but didn't think it would be an issue. I think i might take another look at it just to be sure cause i can always add another mounting point. Just trying to keep it simple and clean.

in my truck project we made the aluminum support go all the way across. Then we made to intersecting mounts from the rear. they go all the way across. to it only loads the tank aluminum in a vertical plane not a horizontal plane also. I believe there are some tank construction photos on my website.

So you ran the solid peices of alluminum all the way across? I am a little confused on what you meant "made the intersecting mounts from the rear? If i remake the sides and run a solid piece all the way across for my two mounting points (basically connecting the right side with the left side) that should help with the metal fatigue from all the loads? I looked at your truck build a bunch of times but you don't show any of the supports. I believe all you show is the basic layout of it when you first got it built.

I already started on the headers and I am loving it. So much fun and I really enjoy the creative challenges. I almost have the driver side mocked up so after i get that done i post some pics.
